PRI UK was set up by Andy Wilson and Nick Howe following years of researching and investigating the paranormal. Both had experienced anomalous events for which there appeared to be no rational explanation, what also became apparent was that family, friends and work colleagues had similar experiences which were equally baffling.
Unsurprisingly then, a national daily newspaper reported in July 2015 that 82% of Britons believe in the supernatural, 68% say they have experienced a supernatural event and 56% have had some sort of contact from a bereaved loved one.
That said, Andy and Nick’s shared opinion is that despite this widespread belief science lacks a broad-minded approach to the paranormal and generally rejects the idea that these unexplained events could occur. This lack of empathy has some basis: discredited mediums, sensation seeking TV programmes, commercial paranormal events groups claiming that every noise is an intelligent response from beyond, the list goes on.
"Our view is that a more rational approach has to be taken particularly when undertaking investigations on behalf of clients. By investigating and recording events we hope to collect enough reliable evidence and information to form theories that have credibility. Equally as important, we aim to help clients who are distressed by the events going on around them".
Andy and Nick are NRPI (National Register of Professional Investigators) approved, NRPI is recognised by the government of the UK as a professional body for investigators. They are both members of The Ghost Club, ASSAP (The Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena) and the SPR (the Society for Psychical Research). They regularly contributed articles which to date include The Ghost Club Journal, Seriously Strange Magazine (ASSAP) and The Next Truth.
